Another Bouldering Trip
Not sure who's nervous about Moe's Valley getting bulldozed over, but I was. Hearing that this bouldering destination may not be there in a year or so got me scared that I was missing out. So instead of our yearly trip to Red Rock, we detoured to Moe's.
We landed, picked up pads and headed to Red Springs for some quickies. Cirque Du Soleil was a beautiful piece of rock which really taxed my shoulder. Since we had a parks pass, we headed into the loop to Willow Springs to try some boulders there. Wish someone told me that most of this stuff was essentially slab because I tried quite hard.
Then it was onto Moe's and what a surprise.
On the first day, I couldn't do the second move of this one V4 (No-Mind) in the Sentinel area and I kept dabbing on this easy V6 (The Fang). I was having a hard time. Then somehow I flashed a V7 (Paradise Lost) and fell on a V2 (Double Dab). What a confusing day.
I eventually got into the groove and did basically what Jonah told me to do, target V6s. I did a ton of them and they were all very different:
- Pink Lady was mostly giant holds.
- Spectro was all about a huge jumping span.
- Israil was a slanted sloper rail.
- Kung Pao had weird moves all over and allowed me to make use of a weird knee bar.
- Boris had me slapping slopers.
- Underwhelmed and The Fang's crux was to not dab.
Not going to lie, my psych waned a bit and was really happy to hit the Hurricave and meet up with Micah. I wasn't all that psyched about the hike up but the climbing, other than the stuff around the edge of the cave, was a whole lot of fun. The less chossy climbs had feet that reminded me of Rifle with some of the biggest and baddest jugs I've ever grabbed in my entire life. There are draws and anchors everywhere and figuring out where to go was actually quite confusing. I didn't bring my helmet and I honestly wish I did.
I need to learn how to pull on crimps, like for real. It was holding me back from doing Dead Rabbit (pulling off a left hand sidepull crimp), The 6th Extinction (another left hand sidepull crimp), Indolence and Ripploid to name a few.
I need to work on my wrists more which was absolutely hurting me from doing Bazooka Tooth and maybe Teepee Traverse. There were a lot of instances where I had to turn my wrist into a mantle and it was rough.
There were quite a bit of toe hooks. This was nice since I don't get to use them often. However, my fancy new Instinct VSR LV are looking pretty trashed.
I've never experienced friction so good in my life. Sticking to the slopers on Boris was like a magic trick.
Will I be back? Maybe, but I think I'd be more psyched to play in the Hurricave more. Thanks Giulia for letting me climb 11 days in a row and taking so many pics and videos!
